Hi All, I just had a look at the approved rule changes for 2002, specifically 02-2. In the proposed change published in SA etc. 02-2 was to simply lower the number of figures in the unlimited free to 12. What was approved is something totally different, a bonus point system. The bonus point system has been hotly debated here in the past. So far this year there has been no discussion on the bonus point system, so I can't be the only person surprised by this change! Is there someone out there familiar with the bylaws, that can clarify this issue? I don't think the board should be able to make up new rules behind closed doors and slip them in under the guise of a completely different proposed rule. There is supposed to be a period of time for the membership to review and comment on rule changes. If the original 02-2 was scrapped then a new review period of equal length and notification should apply to the new 02-2 and/or become a 2003 proposal. In regards to the original 02-2 and new 02-2, I would like to object to the adoption of this rule in either form. I know the review period has long passed for 2002 but if the above issue doesn’t remove the rule I have a proposal for 2003. Lowering the number of figures in the free to 12 effectively eliminates a whole class of aircraft from attempting unlimited. While the point system flat out rewards horsepower over pilot skill. I currently fly a Pitts S1-T in Advanced and hope to attempt unlimited at some point in future. The bottom line is that 420K in 12 figures is virtually impossible in the Pitts. At least the new 02-2 does not erect an absolute barrier. Pilots of high performance aircraft already have a huge advantage, why make the gap larger? The point being, given enough power and roll, it's no big deal to pile on some easy K on the upline etc.. I'm not sure about the rest of the country, but in the Northeast, many contests cannot even fly unlimited due to lack of competitors. These rule changes will only make this situation worse. What happened to all the "grass roots" rhetoric? Are we the IAC or back to being CIVA's ugly step child? I would like to see some discussion on both topics, changing proposed rules and the 02-2 rule itself.
