IAC'S NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Following the course set by the IAC Board at the special meeting in
September we have hired Sharon Heuer to fill the position of Executive
Director. I know many of you are acquainted with Sharon, but for
those who are new to IAC in the last two years, Sharon brings to the
position a high level of experience and knowledge of IAC. Prior to
moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sharon served as our Executive
Secretary and has been with the sport for many years. She will begin
her duties in early November.
SUMMARY OF PRESIDENTS MESSAGE - SEPT SPORT AEROBATICS
Newsletters and e-mail have indicated some concern as to why IAC has
chosen to make the move to Oshkosh. The board deliberated what would
be the best long term solution for IAC's future. With the large
membership base to service, IAC now needs to have the assurance that
when board leadership changes or personnel changes are necessary, the
day to day business will continue and membership service will
continue. There will always be phone service to members. Most
important, business will continue. We will have greater continuity
with our membership and business activities which are already being
conducted at the EAA offices. To fulfill IAC's needs for the future
and to bring greater stability and continuity to our organization, the
logical choice is to relocate the balance of the day to day business
in Oshkosh.
There is still a phone message for reference on the Memphis number which will stay active in the interim. Doug McConnell can be contacted for day to day business. For Sport Aerobatics, please continue to contact Mike Heuer in this regard. If you can't reach either, please direct your calls to me directly and I will forward.
NOVEMBER IAC BOARD MEETING
The IAC Board meets November 9 and 10 in Oshkosh. It is our desire to
reach a conclusion regarding our Editor for Sport Aerobatics. We on
the Board appreciate your concern of not receiving your magazine on
time. Mike Heuer is working diligently to bring us up to date.
Unfortunately, things do not happen overnight. Please give him your
support in this transition period.
ADDITIONAL TOPICS
Discussion is planned covering our two national competitions. I have
been following the healthy discussion following the U.S. Nationals on
AOL. I will bring these to the attention of the directors at the board
meeting. We will also be discussing the lack of member interest to
serve as a contest director for either of these competitons. If our
national competitions are to continue, we cannot allow ourselves to
slip into the, "Let Johnny do it!" syndrome.
I anticipate a good discussion on the agenda topic of electronic mail and how your leadership can make the best use of it. One of the things we should not lose sight of is that although many of our IAC members are signing up for e-mail transmission, there is still the majority of our membership which has not done so, and may never become involved. We must continue to serve that portion of our membership also.
How we use this tool of communication is important. I read incoming mail on the electronic waves and newsletters that is good healthy discussion on various IAC subjects, but there are also those who hurry to take the critic's pen in hand and make assumptions without first doing a thorough job of investigation. Please remeber, the telephone still exists and personal voice contact with officers can sitll solve many problems quickly.
In closing, please remember our board meetings are always open to the membership. We hope to see you at these meetings.
Linda Hamer
