Lonestar Aerobatics Championship

McGregor, TX. June 22 - 24, 1995

We set a goal of EVERYONE getting a full compliment of flights, with Sportsmen set up to get a third flight before we flew everyone else's unknowns. As it turned out, we wrapped up all 37 power and 2 glider competitors by 6:30 on Saturday, with a great banquet in Waco that night.

This was a new venue for us, and the concensus seems to be that we will return, perhaps more than once per year. The town of McGregor turned out in spades, and sponsored the Friday banquet, with the Chamber of Commerce provided coffee and donuts, plus lunch vending.

The weather was hot, but the gentle winds were nearly straight down the X axis of our "box from H*ll", which had been intentionally laid out to avoid being aligned with anything obvious, like runways or section lines.

The only thing keeping this from going over previous year's attendance seemed to be quite a few airplanes down for repairs, or rebuilds, (and a few recent accidents) keeping several of our regular people away. One competitor's gear was wiped out upon arrival, but he stayed and worked the contest anyway. Definitely the "IAC Spirit"! Airplane only moderately damaged, and is repairable.

On a somewhat more personal note, you might observe that the two top finishers in Intermediate were flying airplanes originally designed in the early 30's! Do not think you have the have the latest plastic fantastic to compete and have a great time.

Gliders

Note: We had two gliders in attendance, but only one each in Unlimited and Intermediate. Although they each got a full compliment of scored flights (3 in intermediate and 4 in unlimited), the lack of competitors denied them the opportunity to compete.
