IAC List Members, The IAC List Digest is a nifty way to participate in the e-mail information flow and opinions on the list without receiving a ton of individual e-mails. Every day or other, a single combined e-mail containing all the interval individual IAC List postings arrives--sent when the collection has achieved a critical storage size of about 30 to 45K, it seems. If there is a post I wish to respond to, it is a simple matter to cut it out of the digest and reply to the sender or to iac at lists for the entire membership. If the issue is important, it can wait a day for my (perhaps unimportant) response. If the issue is not important to me, crude or a flame, I simply scroll past it with my blood pressure unaffected, untempted to slap the reply button and retort with a zinger. E-mail life for me at least has been so much happier since I unsubscribed to IAC List and subscribed to the Digest. Visit the IAC home page to see how: http://acro.aerobaticsweb.org/iac_email.html. Now, an observation. The most recent Digest was 40K and contained only three small individual e-mails. How could that be? They were reproduced on the digest with win.dat attachments, raw HTML following the text, .gif signature graphics, etc. This was caused by the senders, not the digest. Also, occasionally folks replying to an e-mail on the list will include in-line EVERY previous post on the topic. That is usually not required to follow the thread of the message, and anyone who cares can easily retrieve the previous postings since the subject remains the same. So, a request and suggestions from an IAC Digest subscriber: 1. Configure your e-mail program or browser to send HTML or plain text only, not both at once. Usually there is an option for the mailer to resubmit as plain text if the HTML was refused. Ask any geek to help if the previous two sentences made no sense to you. 2. Please don't attach lengthy .gifs or signature blocks to e-mails sent to a big group such as the IAC List. 3. Don't attach photos, large documents, etc., if they are published on the web; instead, give the link and the reader can get there with a click. 4. Exercise a little editorial restraint when replying to a previous post and copy in-line only the pertinent parts of the original posting, not the entire stream. Less is more! Finally, if you belong to an IAC chapter or have friends that have quit the list because of recent offensive or off-topic streams, encourage them to give the IAC List Digest a try. All the flavor with half the calories! Best luck this contest season, have fun and fly safe! Warren Anderson
