This is just an observation about the SU-29 aileron. While at the nationals this year I noticed that the SU-29 aileron is not riveted as well as bonded. My SU-26M has double flush rivets along the trailing edge. There was a SU-31 with the standard 31 ailerons and it was also riveted. Another 31 had what appeared as 29 style ailerons (two spades per aileron) and was not riveted. This could very well explain the reason for sudden aileron failure. The trailing edge of the Sukhoi's are bonded with a wood trailing edge strip (see SU-26M Manual) since this wood strip is small it is sensitive to moisture, which can weaken the bonded joint. For anyone wishing for more input please e-mail me personally Eddie Saurenman
