To echo a few previous postings, I can't say enough about Aviat's commitment to aviation safety and it's support of aerobatic pilots throughout the country. Their Free aircraft inspection program and in many cases repairs of damaged aircraft at local contests, demonstrates the best possible customer support I can think of. If your contest hasn't had the privilege of Aviat's Danny Adams presence or perhaps you are unaware of this program, let me briefly outline it for you. Planning out at Afton must start as soon as the contest dates are established because after the the dates were finalized for our Chapter 52 Regional contest in the New York state, Danny was calling us and asking if he could attend. Our contest starts on Thursday and finishes up on Sunday. When the first chapter members arrived to set up the box and generally get things rolling, we were greeted on the ramp by a smiling face with a red Aviat hat and polo shirt. Most of us didn't know who he was or what he was here for so we asked him. He said he was here to work and be available for up close and personal support of his company's aircraft. We promptly gave him a clipboard and made him a tech inspector. Throughout the weekend he managed to inspect, evaluate, and repair no less than 20 aircraft. Unfortunately for us, the weather was unflyable Friday and Saturday, but it allowed Danny to give one on one maintenance seminars to anyone that requested it. As an added Bonus, Fast Eddie Saurenman, of Aviat's Design and new product development, was our keynote speaker at the banquet. He kept everyone riveted as he spoke of new designs and black projects in the works. I fast forward to this weekend at the Chapter 113 contest in Pa. Once again Danny was present and did his impression of a leapfrog going over airplane after airplane on the ramp. As Jd mentioned, he found some serious issues with planes that even the best pre flights had missed. In some cases he made recommendations, others he just fixed. It didn't even matter if the plane wasn't a Pitts; especially in my case. My own aircraft, a Pitts S2a was in the shop for minor repairs this weekend and in the spirit of friendship and exceedingly good form a first time competitor let me fly his pristine Acrosport. It was a great flying aircraft but since I was accustomed to My heavy Hartzell prop and not his lightweight 3 blade composite prop I was not prepared for an in-flight engine stoppage when I chopped the power to enter a spin. Good news was I got the engine started before they called me low/low, bad news was I zeroed the figure and flew under par the rest of the sequence. When I landed, I hunted up Danny and in 20 minutes he troubleshot the problem, upped the engine Idle and we were good to go for another 3 flights. I continued to fly poorly but the plane's owner and first timer at a contest went on to take 2nd place in basic. Thank you Danny and Aviat. There are many of us out here who appreciate your commitment to your customers and aviation in general. Stephen Seidel Pitts S2a N31486 Director ICA Chapter 52
