MOVE UP! MOVE UP! is meant in jest (hence the smiley). As a post multiple contest director, I have given out many copies of freestyles and unknowns to competitors. Also, I am fully in agreement that a competitor should not be forced to move up if he/she does not feel the desire (see old posting on this subject). I've been around 15 years in this organization, so I've seen the changes in aircraft and people over the years. Very few of the "founders" are still in the sport, and only a few like Mike Heure were involved at a young enough age to be among the average age of today's competitors. Also, one of the things on my list of to-do's is go back through SA's and try to determine the average competition span of today's contest pilots. Most people don't stay in this sport more than four years is my rough guess. This is high turnover. Why? They become competent in Sportsman, move up to Intermediate, become competent in Intermediate, move up to Advanced, don't do so good, drop out. If they can't win they leave. Possibly something to do with ego? Let's admit it, there are some BIG ones out there. At the same time, these and others are some of the friendliest and fun people to be around on a weekend. I'm just here to have fun. That's why I've been involved so long. Regards, Eric. Eric Rood ericrood at freenet.columbus.oh.us
