Note true. Only the RV-3 has been banned by the IAC from
competition. I don't think that ban includeds the RV-3A. I have seen
Dick VanGrusen, owner and designer of Vans Aircraft, do a very good
aerobactic airshow demo in his RV-4. The RVs can do aerobatics and
numerous RV-4s have been flow up thru intermediate. Rvs are not
unlimited aerobactic A/C and are only designed for +- 6Gs. The RVs are a
good compromise between sport/cross country/mild aerobatics, but it is
not an unlimited machine.

Reference spar failures on the RV-3, my
research indicates that the failure was not the spar, but the rear spar
attach point incorrectly located and attached, and the failure happened
above the designed flight loads, sometimes in a high G rolling pullout.

For more info on RVs join the RV list at: rv-list at matronics.com.
