As far as animals are concerned, it is all about birds. There is nothing else to see. The birds in general were very shy. They didn't let me et close at all, so it was difficult to get good pictures.
Unfortunately I was there after the nesting season was over, so I didn't get to seem as many birds as I hoped. I went to Látrabjarg, the western most tip of Iceland. In the cliffs in that area are nesting colonies of many of the birds, in particular the puffins. All I saw there were some seagulls and one cormorant. If you are interested in birds, you need to go much earlier in the season to see them.

Ducks were the most common birds that I saw after seagulls. (730k) Eurasian Wigeons (Mareca penelope, german: Pfeifente, french: Canard siffleur). (640k) I got a little closer to these, but they are paddling away as fast as they can. (757k) Whooper Swans (Cygnus cygnus, german: Singschwan, french: Cygne chanteur), they were also very common. (553k) Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus, german: Mantelmöwe, french: Goéland marin), center, juvenile and adult Common Gulls (Larus canus, german: Sturmmöwe, french: Goéland cendré). (624k) ?? Unknown bird landing. (676k) Seagull in flight. (321k) Northern Fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis, german: Eissturmvogel, french: Fulmar boréal). This bird was sitting on the road and was not moving. Just after I took this picture another car drove by. The bird just barely escaped being run over. I did see a lot of bird roadkill. (565k) This Northern Fulmar also didn't move when I got closer.
