I sent the following to USAToday.

Safe Flying,
Jack
***************************
The knee-jerk, feel-good measures being considered in the aftermath of
Charles Bishop's tragic suicide are an off-base attempt to cure the symptoms
of a tragic national disease: Teen suicide.

When we, the American public, and our elected leaders stop searching for
quick fixes and focus on the hard question of understanding why the Charles
Bishop's, the Eric Harris' and Dylan Klebold's feel compelled to take the
roads they chose, then we will begin curing this disease.

Our nation's greatest resource will always be our nation's youth. The
recent
Education bill is a start, but it is not all encompassing. It does nothing
to assist the gifted, yet underprivileged, students in our nation's schools.

We need more teachers, more counselors and more student programs, not
padlocks on little airplanes.

Jack Eppard
Commander, USNR (Ret.)
