The T's are aluminum leading edges. All the factory Pitts I've seen have aluminum. I'd guess this is because the leading edge on a biplane does not add much strength so they go for the lightest thing they can use??  On a monoplane the sheeting is what stops the wing from twisting but on a biplane of course you have the other wing/bracing interplane struts etc. to do that job.
