For those of you planning to come to the Ottawa/Gatineau contest in June and
arriving from the US the customs procedures for entering Canada have become
a bit closer to what they were prior to 9/11.
In particular the Can Pass telephone customs clearance program is back which
means that you can register for the program and then clear customs by simply
landing at an approved airport at the proper time and making a call to
For some reason Gatineau airport is not currently on the list of approved
airports but at least you have several other options besides landing at
Ottawa International. I suspect the approved list will change day by day and
I've asked the administration of Gatineau to see if we can get it back on
the list in time for the contest.
In any case, those of you coming from Vermont/Mass, Cornwall is still your
best bet with the added benefit that you can stop after 5:00pm and clear by
phone when the customs folks have gone home. This should make an after work
flight up on Friday much more attractive.
Phone 1-800-842-7647 to find out about registering.
Also, could those of you that think there is a reasonable probability
you will attend reply to this email to help with planning. One line with
name, plane and category would be much appreciated.
One other request, anybody that has their freestyle ready before the
contest, if you could email a text version of it to: jay.hunt at
<mailto:jay.hunt at> it will allow us to enter it into the scoring
program ahead of the contest and save us some time.
