Everyone must be pretty busy out there,  haven't seen much traffic here for some time so I though I'd throw out a statement that someone might disagree or agree with enough to make a posting.

In spite of Lycoming's engine manual recommendation that an engine should never be leaned when using a power setting above 75%, some engines (Lyc AEIO540 D4A5) may be safely leaned to best power (125-150 degrees rich of lean) at full power.  For the 540 this works out to about 22 gph -  full rich is around 26 gph.  By definition, more complete combustion will occur and more horsepower will be generated.  The exhaust valves will also be hotter than they are at full rich but EGT, CHT and oil temps will all be in the green.
