We had a good turn-out for the box layout party today. I got there late, due to low scud at departure time, but glad we had the plane to check for box geometry. The local sheriff and his buddy were wasting time in the county helicopters, and brought over a very nice 47 to spot some of the corners and center marker for us. Your tax dollars being very helpful, thank you. Tried to use a GPS to lay out the box, and it helped, but not a lot. Perhaps a different GPS, or a better operator might have made it more useful. It got us into the right neighborhood for each location, but the final movement had to be spotted from the air. Still better than last year, when we were walking down 7 ft high rows of corn groping for marker locations by pacing off. McGregor continues to be a very hospitable airport, allowing us the use of their truck for the layout (plus the afformentioned free heli-help.) Box will be open for practice Friday, May 17. Event briefing Saturday morning no later than 10:00 AM. Earlier if most everyone is on-site. Three flights for everyone. Still need all the judges we can get, and you don't have to be an accredited judge. Good practice for judges to be. See everyone Friday. Don
