I don't know why the sudden AD on this. This is a known problem. It happened to me on my old S1C (homebuilt by someone else) a few years ago. I noticed it after I found some other cracks and decided to tear the plane down for a thorough inspection. Ultimately I scrapped the plane. I found too many things that made me nervous. When a homebuilder builds this part he hacksaws it out and bends it to shape with a hammer or some other other ingenious device of torture. A certain percentage of them crack at that time. Part of the building process is to carefully inspect each part for exactly this problem. Apparently this had not been done with mine. THERE WAS PAINT IN THE CRACK. On the plus side, the plane flew for many years without losing a wing. So please pull the fairing and take a good look, Jeff! AD's technically don't apply to homebuilts, but the same precautions should be taken. Good luck, Paul Eidsvik > > Does anyone know if there are S1-C's out there (or maybe in my hanger) with > these dreaded brackets? > > Jeff
