We have now cooked two starters on our S1S. The first time, the Bendix gear
came out part way, and raked the back of the ring gear. The second time
(with a brand new starter), it must have fully engaged, and eventually
burned out the starter motor during the 10 minute flight home. That was the
sixth start of the day in about seven hours.

Skytec is saying it sounds like a stuck solenoid (which I doubt they
consider a warranty item), which raises another question. The solenoid
bolted to the firewall is a battery solenoid, which is labeled "continuous
duty", versus a starter solenoid, labeled "intermitten duty". I'm not sure
why the builder chose a battery solenoid, but so far people I have talked
with say it shouldn't matter.

Any feedback / advice would be much appreciated!
