This holiday weekend Mother Nature gave us some of the best weather we have had in the state in a month and the best weather for the contest in a few years. 22 competitors made the trip to Marlette. IAC Chapter 34 was well represented with 8 pilots. One competitor, Tom Siegler, flew his Clipped Wing Taylorcraft in from Wichita, Kansas. We were able to complete three rounds of flights for the Advanced and Intermediate pilots. The Sportsman and Basic pilots flew two rounds on Saturday. A real bonus for the Basic competitors to be able to fly two flights. IAC Chapter 88 wishes to thank all the volunteers who worked many hours on Saturday and Sunday to help us host a successful contest. We all know that it is these folks that make a contest work. Thank-you, IAC Chapter 88 Southeastern Michigan __________________________________________________________________ Michigan Open Aerobatic Championship, Marlette, MI, July 5-7, 1996 Contest Director - Virginia Jacobson Ass't Contest Director - Nancy McKenzie Chief Judges - Barb and Ed Toland Official Results and Final Standings Category - Basic (Results were calculated using Straight Average) Rank Pilot Aircraft Known 1 Known 2 Avr Total %pp 1st Wayne Buescher Pitts S-2B 362.60 374.50 737.10 83.76% 2nd James Moore Starduster Too 359.20 361.80 721.00 81.93% Category - Sportsman (Results were calculated using Straight Average) Rank Pilot Aircraft Known Free Avr Total %pp 1st Jim Peeples Eagle II 1121.50 1137.40 2258.90 86.22% 2nd Jerry Brackett YAK 55M 1089.60 1090.70 2180.30 83.22% 3rd Thomas Siegler Taylorcraft 1067.30 1091.20 2158.50 82.39% 4th Curt Arnspiger Eagle II 1076.00 1079.40 2155.40 82.27% 5th Daniel Unger Pitts S-1S 1058.90 1074.50 2133.40 81.43% 6th Jim Negaard Pitts S-2B 1071.50 944.50 2016.00 76.95% 7th Richard MacDonald Decathlon 922.40 1057.90 1980.30 75.58% 8th Greg Panzl Eagle II 1043.80 921.50 1965.30 75.01% 9th Robert Gaines YAK 55M 893.50 1069.70 1963.20 74.93% Category - Intermediate (Results were calculated using Straight Average) Rank Pilot Aircraft Known Free Unknown Avr Total %pp 1st Brian Howard Pitts S-2B 1557.40 1538.50 931.10 4027.00 86.23% 2nd Miles Merritt SU-29 1565.70 1471.50 932.40 3969.60 85.00% 3rd Len Rulason Lenmeister 230 1502.30 1506.90 903.40 3912.60 83.78% 4th Wayne Norris Pitts S-1S 1417.40 1484.00 881.60 3783.00 81.01% 5th Gary Staffeld Pitts S-2B 1480.90 1423.70 874.80 3779.40 80.93% 6th J.R.
