IAC National Judges ONLY! So we got our "97 Unlimited Judge Selection" ballot from the Board, and we are busy beavers working on these hard, and now more expensive decisions. Winners get the FREE motel rooms in Fond du Lac and (lovely) downtown Sherman, along with the coveted IAC Board of Directors exclusive "invitation" to attend the big events. OK. Now all we need to know is the following: 1. Who is going to Fond du Lac? 2. Who is flying any other category besides Unlimited? 3. Who is a good judge? (might not be important at all) 4. Who gives US/ME the best scores? All this depression talk lately make me think I could use some Prosac to make this decision more intelligently. My guess is that as in all prior "Voting Contests", the pursuit quality or excellence and skill in judging will be lost in favor of rule #4 above. I would STRONGLY prefer a purely mathematical system based on the amount of "Unlimited" judging and critiquing each National Judge has performed in the recent past. As an unlimited pilot, I can tell you for a fact that you don't want us (the pilots) to participate in this kind of voting. The obvious reason the blind, cruddy, biased judges keep getting back on the line is rule #4, and this new "Beauty Contest" system reinforces this proven disruptive and erosive process of team selection. Of course, any savvy competitor will base his or her entire decision on rule #4 exclusively. Who dreams this stuff up? Why does our Board of Directors support this approach?
