The FAR which most likely are thinking of, are 30 "flight" hours in any

 7 days. However an airline pilots time on duty (which I consider my

 time away from home) is in excess of 70 hours per week.  My time

 at work including flight hours, is closer to 48 ours a week.

For whatever it's worth to you, I put in about 65-70 hours a week (I'm

not an airline pilot). I get paid for 40. Everywhere I look it's the

same. American businesses are going through a revolution of down-sizing,

consolidating, cost-cutting, salary stagnation,  workforce reduction,

outsourcing, etc., etc., etc. You and your profession are not alone....
