Contest schedule for 1997 Italian Aerobatic Championship has been approved and is listed below. Contests flights are held exclusively on Saturday and Sunday, in order to ease efforts of both pilots and judges, which have their own work to think about during weekdays. Thus, categories have been grouped in Sportsmen - Unlimited and Intermediate - Advanced, with the important side effect of equating total number of contestants for each run. Sportsmen and Intermediate are held on 3 programs, one Known and two Unknowns: contest is declared valid after Known and Unknown #1. Advanced is held on one Known, one Aresti Freestyle (300K, 15 figures), and two Unknowns: contest valid after Known and Free. Unlimited is held on Known, Aresti Freestyle (420K, 17 figures) and Unknown, and is valid after Known and Free. Since many problems arise in Italy, where terrain is mostly uneven and population density is high, box has been withdrawn and substituted with a simple display line in front of judges. To allow a better assessment of flights, K factor for positioning has been increased to 20 for all flights and categories. Scoring system is once more the so-called "Mini-Bauer", where highest and lowest scores are discarded figure by figure and averaged at the end. Judging panel is composed by 5 peoples. Finally, National Titles are awarded by summing best contest points % scored during the season and the one scored in the Final. In case final is not declared valid (as happened in 1996 for Unlimited because of weather), Titles are awarded on best points % only. This method allows pilots to organize their season on a free basis, participating to contests more close or practical for them as they wish, and "taking home" a bias results for Final.
