Normalization has its utility in bringing everyone's methodology of scoring
into the same units of measure. However, I believe that equally important is
the figure by figure variation in the mean score awarded by each judge. A
TBLP system which normalizes figure by figure would reduce the inequities
produced by varied interpretations of the rule book wherein the rule book is
silent or imprecise. As an example how many judges use the same technique
for downgrading a forced spin entry, an e shaped loop, a torqued hammerhead
or a barrelled roll?
