I have just returned from the Midwest Regional contest at Albert Lea; what a week-end! This year, the contest directors pressed for volunteer recognition and to encourage newcomers to fly in basic. A patient and generous friend offered me a seat in his S-2, while my son and I signed up to work the contest for the week-end. A total of five pilots flew basic, four of us first timers, with at least three pilots borrowing a seat for the contest. We did not fly perfect sequences, but we flew safe, learned a lot, and had great fun. I was really impressed by the camaraderie and support for all, both volunteers and contestants. I had the thrill of flying my first contest, my 15 year old son soloed as a corner judge and panel flipper. Thanks to all for sharing the experience with us. Thanks chapter 78! Tom Kerns
