Today I was at the Aviat factory in Afton, Wyoming. I was standing next to Carol's desk when she fielded a call regarding criteria for the Pitts Trophy, now awarded at most IAC-sanctioned contests. Strangely enough, when I got back to my office this afternoon, several IAC e-mail list messages--and a couple of personal ones--inquired about the same issue. I have spoken to Stuart Horn just a few minutes ago, and here is the final determination and policy: This trophy will be awarded to the highest placing "Pitts pilot"--that is, flying a PITTS, certified or experimental. Plans-built or factory-built. Not Eagles, not Huskys, not "Pitts-type", but PITTS. The FAA-registration would be the final determining factor. "S-1" or "S-2", etc., etc. Aviat will clarify their intention via memo to IAC and also brief their employees accordingly. A clarification will be published in SPORT AEROBATICS. Hope this answers all questions. Best Regards, K<> Karen Diamond Editor, Sport Aerobatics
