Well folks, no sooner than I post our chapters 1998 event calendar, do I need to make updates to it. This year, at our Michigan Aerobatic Championship, we are going to honor one of our long time chapter members. 1998 will be the tenth anniversary of Henry Haigh winning the title of 1988 World Aerobatic Champion. In honor of that achievement our 1998 contest will also be known as The Henry Haigh Challenge. Henry was honored this year by being inducted to the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony was held November 1, 1997 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The CAN-AM Aerobatic Championship, is not going to be held Labor Day Weekend. With the US Nationals starting on Sept 7th and most of the chapters pilots wishing to participate in the Nationals, we are going to have to come up with a new date. Will post as soon as we have it figured out. The chapter also wishes to remember one of our friends at the 1998 CAN-AM Championships. The contest will be held in memory of Larry Weeks. Larry was a major force in Aerobatics Canada and the creation of the CAN-AM Championship. He was killed this past year in a non-aerobatic aircraft mishap. Something new we are going to be doing this year before our chapter meetings is a IAC Red Book / Judging Review Session. Guy Juntunen will be leading the discussion. The goal is to provide a forum for review and discussion of the finer points of judging and flying the figures. The first session was held at our November meeting and was well received. Our next session will be before our January meeting.
